Restaurant Innovations Means Great Consumer Dining
By Lilliam and Larry Larsen
The Restaurant and Lodging Show each year introduces new items that are designed to improve taste, reduce waste and increase the overall enjoyment and
variety offered in every place where food is sold. There's always more food than you can ever try, and this year was no exception.
Here is our list of favorites:
Cheney Brothers - The only company from last year's list that also made it on our list of favorites this year. Their highlight was a new Latino / Hispanic seasonings for chicken, beef or
pork. They also featured new Salsa products, bound to please even the most discriminating foody!
Bruce Foods from Louisiana has a new canned sweet potato product which would not mean much to us, except they were making fritters --
and they were excellent! Normally not fans of sweet potato, as a fritter it was a totally different story.
F
abbri Gelato - We tried several gelato brands, but this was far and
above the best tasting one! In addition, this company provides all the ingredients for making this creamy Italian ice cream and (what sets it
apart) provides training to the store owner on the best way to make this product.
Drum Rock Products
- If taste is an indicator, then this company - in business since 1950 - has all the batter companies beat! Their shrimp
fritters showcased their New England style batter and they were terrific. Based in Rhode Island, this company also features 4 other types of batter
for seafood items. We went back for another taste!
Orlando Brewing - What's a food show without beer? Florida's only certified organic brewery brews in accordance with the German Purity Law of 1516. They use
only natural, organic ingredients. Ales at the show included light & easy-drinking to deep, dark, robust porters. The brewery offers free tours Monday thru Friday at 6pm.
Citrocasa
- We were impressed at the variety of models offered by this commercial fruit juicer, but the amazing thing was the amount of juice it was able to extract and what a difference
"fresh" juice can be! Restaurants wanting to offer real fresh orange juice must use this juicer! It was amazing.
